About Bowling Fresh

Bowling Fresh is an independent set of guides for people new to ten-pin bowling and to league play. It is not a bowling center, a league or a governing body.

What the guides cover

The guides cover the questions most new bowlers have in their first few weeks: how scoring adds up, how to pick a house ball that fits, how to hold the ball and walk the approach, how to make spares and handle splits, how to behave at the lanes, and how leagues work. Everything is about ten-pin bowling. Other games, such as candlepin and duckpin, use different pins, balls and rules.

Who it is for

The guides are written for adults and older teens who have bowled a few times for fun and want to get better, or who have been asked to join a league team and want to know what they are in for. If you are brand new, start with the home page checklist for your first night and the scoring guide. If you already bowl regularly, the spares and splits guides are the most useful.

How to read the diagrams

The pin diagrams show the pin deck from above, as it looks from where you stand on the approach. The 1 pin is at the front, the 7 is back left and the 10 is back right. Dark pins are standing and dotted outlines are pins already down. Aiming advice is written for right-handed bowlers unless it says otherwise. Left-handers can mirror it.

How we handle facts

Rules are described as they usually work in ten-pin bowling. Some details, such as how a league sets handicap, how fouls are recorded or what a center allows, vary between leagues, centers and countries, and they change over time. For the rules that apply to you, check with your league secretary, your bowling center or your national governing body.

Where the guides touch on aches or injuries, they give general information only. Ask a doctor or physical therapist about pain that doesn't go away.

No prices, ratings or brand picks

Bowling Fresh has no advertising, partner links or sponsored posts. We don't recommend brands of balls, shoes or accessories, and we don't rate or rank bowling centers. We don't list prices for games, shoe rental or league fees, because they vary by center and change often. Your center can tell you the current rates.

What this site is not

We don't run a bowling center, organize leagues, sell equipment or speak for any governing body. Nothing on the site is an official rule book. Coaches at your center, certified instructors and pro shop staff can watch you bowl and give advice no website can.

Corrections and contact

If you spot a mistake, such as a rule described wrongly or a pin diagram that doesn't match the text, please write to contact@bowlingfresh.com. We read every message and fix confirmed errors. See the privacy policy for how we handle email.
